Philip Tidwell
An Architect and Educator
Philip Tidwell, an architect and educator, specializes in exploring the dynamic relationships between materials, form, and construction methods. Over the past ten years, his teaching and research have predominantly revolved around wood construction and pre-fabrication, often involving the creation of experimental buildings at full scale. He earned a Master's degree from Princeton University's School of Architecture and a Bachelor's degree in Architecture and Urban Studies from Washington University in St. Louis.
In his recently published book, titled "New Standards" (Garret Publications, 2021), Philip delves into the influences impacting standard, industrial, and manufactured buildings, particularly by revisiting a lesser-known era of wood construction in post-war Finland. Additionally, he had the honor of serving as a co-curator for the Pavilion of Finland at the 2021 Venice Biennale 17th International Architecture Exhibition.
